Our cruise arrived at Nassau on Monday morning and it was beautiful outside! A complete change from Florida's weather the day before. We got ready and headed up for the breakfast buffet and then ate outside, overlooking the bay. We hadn't booked a shore excursion for this port. Our plan was to head to spend the day exploring Atlantis!
Once we got off the ship, we immediately were confused on how to get to the water taxi that was going to take us to the Atlantis Resort on Paradise island. The locals were all happy to provide us with a taxi--which we were warned not to take because they can gouge you on the price and it could take twice as long. No one was willing to tell us how to get to the water taxi's. Our wandering eventually landed us right where we needed to be, but we must had just missed one leaving, so we waited for 20 minutes for the taxi to leave. They had a "guide" on this taxi ride, who shouted as loud as he could to tell us all about everything we passed. I thought it wasn't necessary for him to be shouting like that and wasn't pleased. Then he had the nerve to ask for tips because he wasn't "employed" by the taxi service. I got over my issue there pretty quick when I saw Atlantis! We first played around in the casino, mainly because it was the first thing we walked into. No luck, but we did see someone win $500 on wheel of fortune! Then we made our way out to their pools, but we stopped at their large aquarium for some pictures.
The beach was amazing! Beautiful blue water and Dan thinks they had the best sand! ;)
We weren't sure how much of Atlantis we'd be able to see, not being guests and all. People in the pools were sporting wrist bands that the staff were checking for so we couldn't do that. We had no problems getting out to the beach, but we had problems getting back off the beach! We started walking back just the way we came in and a lady asked me a question. I thought she said something about where you can go get a wristband. I said "no thanks" and kept walking. She yelled after us "Hello?! Where is your wrist band? You need a wristband to enter!" I explained we were not staying at the resort and she said we had to go back out to the beach and go all the way around the resort practically to get back where we needed to be. Well, we walked until we saw antoher sidewalk that led to the same pool area we were trying to get back to, used that and no one else stopped us. Whew! Once we got back to the water taxi dock, we sat and waited a few mintues before 3:00pm, the scheduled time we understood they were making a trip back to the cruise area. 3:15pm came and went and others started to arrive. 3:30pm we get on the little boat--apparently you can just skip a half hour (one way's trip worth) whenever you feel like it out there. And once again they had a "guide" onboard and he was even louder than the first guy and had only the same information. He asked for tips as well. On top of that, I missed an art show on the cruise because of that 1/2 hour delay.

The day was fantastic despite our local traveling issues. It was a lazy day of exploring. We were more excited for the next port stop!
